No Jury Duty For You.
Currently in the States, serving on the jury is a standard civic duty for both genders, but back in the day this was hardly the case. In 1879, the Supreme Court reiterated the old common law that labeled female jurors as surfing from a "defect of sex" and were therefore banned from serving in the court. A courtroom was not seen as the place for a women where they would have to be absent from home, witness potentially gruesome courtroom images and possibly be sympathetic towards criminals. By 1927 there were a few States that saw the ridiculousness of this ban and finally by 1975 the Supreme Court made a decision to get rid of this law. It was about time.
