Sushi is a unique Japanese cuisine that can be found all over the world. One of the great things about this mouthwatering cuisine is that there is a vast array of choices, whether you are a vegetarian or a fish lover. A few of the most popular sushi rolls though are the California roll which is filled with avocado, cucumber and imitation crab, also known as surimi, and Rainbow Roll which contains avocado, cucumber, tuna, salmon shrimp, yellowtail and, again, surimi.
While seafood such as crab, oysters, mussels and prawns are packed with nutrients, specifically protein and Omega 3 Fatty acids, surimi is another story. This is often known as imitation crab stick and is made by pulverizing a portion of some sort of white fish, combining it with starch and then adding in colour and flavour to make it resemble a Japanese Spider Crab or Snow Crab.
