Mexican Restaurants are the place to go if you are craving a bit of spice mixed with meat, veggies, guacamole and sour cream. But the dishes often associated with modern Mexican food comes at a price, a caloric price. Here are a few tips on foods you should avoid and healthy alternatives for the next time you go out or are making Mexican at home.
Flour vs. Corn Tortillas
There are so many options when you are in a Mexican restaurant, one being tortillas. Is flour the better option or corn? What actually is the difference? Well, flour tortillas are made of white flour which has lost much of its nutrients while being refined. Corn tortillas though are made of, you guessed it, corn, so they are actually a whole grain food making them higher in fibre and nutrients. They also tend to be a smaller size, in general, which means you will automatically consume fewer calories.
