Don’t wait for the meeting with your boss and the HR representative before you realise you’re time is up. Read the signs that your career is heading in the wrong direction and you’ll have time to do something about it. Whether you chose to smooth over the issue in the hope that you’ll keep your job or you use the early warning to get yourself another job, knowing where you stand will give you options.
We all know that a performance review is simply an opportunity for bosses to tear into the employees that they’re too awkward to approach in any other manner. It can sometimes be a year between reviews so your boss could have been harbouring issues for almost 12 months. A poor appraisal that’s constructive doesn’t necessarily mean you’re for the chopping block but it could a negative review in which you feel you can’t do anything right means you will be fired or managed out sooner rather than later.
