After Korea was split up following the Second World War, Kim Il-Sung became the first president and declared that North Koreans should follow a policy of self-mastery and self-reliance. He wanted the country to be politically and economically independent from the rest of the world. Unfortunately the now roughly 24 million residents are suffering from the family dictatorship that Kim Il-Sung started. Once he passed away, his son Kim Jung Il reigned followed by his son and now current young leader, Kim Jung Un. The family dynasty continues to rule over the suffering nation.
