There are surprisingly quite a few European countries where gaining European residency is rather quick and simple. These types of visas though that are quick and easy are known as the "Golden Visas" and are usually in exchange for some type of investment in businesses or properties. Once you have renewed this visa for 4-6 years, you can then apply for permanent residency.
While this might not be a country that jumps out to people as a must-see, it is a place worth considering. A temporary residence permit is granted once you buy real estate that is valued at €250,000 or more and pay 5% government fee. Thank to a legislation change in 2010, there is very little time that is required that you live there. If you do want to eventually have permanent residency though, you will have to be physically present there for a certain set number of days throughout the year.
