One role is all an actor needs to go from bit-part to Hollywood star and today you don’t need to be a major movie star to make a boatload of money. TV is so big now that anyone starring in a major show can make millions each year. The best estimates suggest Emilia Clarke earned $100,000 an episode during the first four seasons of the show but in 2014 the main cast inked a better deal. The major stars of Game of Thrones including Kit Harington, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and, of course, Emilia Clarke negotiated a $300,000 per episode deal. That’s $3 million a year for seasons five and six. For seasons seven and eight, the big names renegotiated so just how much is the Mother of Dragons worth when all these very lucrative paydays are added together?
Final two seasons
When Clarke told Vanity Fair that she gets “paid the same as my guy friends,” she must have been pleased that Hollywood’s finally found out about gender equality. The final two seasons are netting her $500,000 an episode. These two seasons offer fewer episodes so she took home $3.5 million for last season and $3million for the final season that began airing in April. Not bad for an actress who’s only major work before GoTs was a one-off part in BBC daytime soap “Doctors”.
Game of Thrones pays the bills but there’s extra money to be made from endorsements. We’re sure her Dolce & Gabbana campaign with Kit Harrington and her Dior jewellery work, and her FabFitFun promotions bring in lots of additional cash but she’s never made those paycheques public.
Clarke’s always looking for the next big project and perhaps hoped that she’d be able to play Sarah Connor in a series of Terminator movies. That doesn’t look likely now as Terminator Genisys didn’t smash the box office as hoped. There’s also little hope for Solo to turn into a money-spinner for the English actress as the planned sequels to that movie are now on the backburner. We’re not sure how much she earned from these movies but these must have been big money paydays as she’s reported to be worth $13 million at this time.
