Pippa Middleton lives under her older sister's rather large shadow but she makes a few waves for herself from time to time. While her sister married a millionaire prince, she got hitched to a billionaire hedge fund manager called James Matthews. He's also a former race car driver which isn't as impressive as Prince William's former career as a helicopter pilot for the London Air Ambulance service. These sisters are probably pretty competitive and their partner's stack up nicely against one another. There's one thing that Pippa does best – her marriage is a lot stranger than her sister's.
A ten-year wait
Although James Matthews fell in love at first sight and decided that Pippa was the girl he'd marry, he waited ten years before proposing to her. Is that the behaviour of a man who knew what he wanted or someone playing the field a while before settling down? The billionaire is eight years older than Pippa Middleton so perhaps the age gap, which was more pronounced when the met in 2007 on St. Barth's in the Caribbean, was the problem. At the time, he was 32 and she was 24.
It seems that Kate's little sister has a thing for moneymen. The pair managed to get together for a short while in 2012. That relationship only lasted a couple of months. Afterwards, she dated Nico Jackson, a stockbroker, but that relationship ended as quickly as it had begun and the pair began to date again in 2015. The Mail reported that a friend of the couple said, "The truth was, the only girl he really wanted was Pippa. He always carried a torch for her."
The pair's on and off relationship probably needed some work to get it back on again but it feels a little bit weird that Pippa's mum rather than a mutual friend helped them rekindle their "love". According to a source quoted in The Telegraph, "This is something she has hoped for for quite some time. She appears to be something of a mastermind in making this happen." According to the report, Carole Middleton had a private meeting with her future son-in-law in which it was suggested that he ask for Pippa's hand in marriage. If you want proof of the mother's involvement, consider that the wedding took place at the Middleton's family estate rather than the James' family estate in Scotland.
