Appearances really aren't that important but the world's media try to get us believing that appearance is everything. How many times has a celeb who's slipped out to get the morning milk or bread for toast been shown looking less than perfect under a headline that suggests they're in the middle of some sort of mental breakdown? When you know the tabloids will tell that story about you if you're hair's out of place, there must be a massive amount of pressure on celebrities. Let's face it though. If you can't handle the attention, you can remove yourself from public life by making a poor album or choosing arthouse movies to act in or generally making an effort to be less popular. You can't do those things if you're royal.
Married to the Royals
Can you imagine growing up under the sort of spotlight that's always shone on Princes Harry and William? They've known nothing but the limelight. Even their grieving over the loss of the mother was a public event. They must have got so used to the invasion of privacy that comes with their position that they ignore it now. The same can't be said for their wives. Okay, Meghan Markle was a media personality but she wasn't an internationally known star but Princess Kate had no exposure to the media glare until she was dating William became public back in June 2005 yet both women make a habit of looking glamorous in front of the cameras. How do they do that?
Whether they're engaged in some official event or enjoying family time in public both ladies keep their makeup minimal. This creates a natural look thanks to smooth tones and neutral lipstick colours. Less really is more for these two women whenever they step out.
Looking at the camera
Have you noticed that Kate rarely looks directly at the camera? She is always pictured looking to the side. This technique avoids a few potential issues that arise when you look directly at a camera. You'll never see her eyes half shut. You won't see her looking sleepy or bored or any of the negative things the eyes can tell us. Each picture looks incidental so there's no need for her to pose for the picture. This gives her a more natural look in the image and it means she avoids the paparazzi so photographers must have a difficult time working out if she loves, hates or feels indifferent to their intrusion.
