Washing your hands regularly and thoroughly is still one of the best defences against Coronavirus, but if you have kids around you might be struggling to convince them to wash for at least 20 seconds. Even without kids, you'll want to make your house as clean as possible. So much has been learnt about the virus since it hit in January 2020, so we're not as in the dark about how to avoid catching it. It's passed on through respiratory droplets in the air or found on objects and surfaces like doorknobs, countertops and keyboards. To protect your home against the virus, you'll need to visit your local supermarket and stock up on some cleaning products.
Many household cleaning products will help prevent the spread of Covid-19. Bleach is very effective at killing the virus. The active ingredient in it, sodium hypochlorite, is very successful at killing bacteria, fungi and viruses. Bleach destroys the protein and the ribonucleic acid (RNA) of the virus. That’s the substance that allows the virus particles to multiply when you get infected. If you’re going to use bleach, only do so as directed on the bottle.
Most antiseptic wipes have benzalkonium chloride as their active ingredient. The main reason they work to destroy the virus is due to the effort you put in. The physical action of wiping removes germs through the pressure you exert. The germs transfer from the surface to the wipe. They also leave antiseptic layer on the surface that helps kill germs.
Surgical spirit is made up of alcohol ethanol. As with bleach, the alcohol in surgical spirit attacks the protein and RNA that makes up the virus. Ethanol on its own been known to kill Covid-19 in as few as 30 seconds. To use surgical spirits, apply some neat to a clean cloth and the rub along the surface. It will evaporate so there’s no need to wipe it off.
